Aid continues for displaced families affected by snowstorms in Syria

Friday 18 February 2022

Last January, displaced Syrian families in the north of the country were hit by heavy snowstorms, which severely affected people's tents and belongings.

With the help of the European Union's Humanitarian Aid and the Luxembourg Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Caritas Luxembourg and its local partner on the ground, the Syrian Association for Relief and Development (SARD), provided additional emergency aid to protect families from the cold. Prior to the snowstorm, preventive measures such as drainage and gravelling works to stabilise the roads around the tents had been implemented to provide additional protection against floods and mudslides for over 15,000 people in 16 camps. Shelter kits, ready-to-eat food rations, hygiene kits and cash were distributed to families. A total of 2,000 people benefited from these distributions. Since then, thousands more people have benefited from community-based rehabilitation work in the camps.
