Caritas Luxembourg to help migrants in Turkey

Tuesday 14 June 2022

Since September 2021, Caritas Luxembourg and its local partner have been working in four Turkish provinces to provide support and legal assistance to vulnerable migrants in Turkey.

The partners provide concrete help, such as warm clothes, hygiene products or shopping vouchers. They inform people about their rights and intervene to take protective measures for those most at risk of violence or sexual exploitation. Finally, people are also supported in their legal procedures and registration with the authorities so that they can benefit from access to health care or education for their children.

Since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, many people have fled the conflict and found refuge in Turkey.

The response of Caritas Luxembourg and its partner had to be adapted to work in collaboration with Ukrainian associations to provide assistance and protection to the new arrivals. An additional 500,000 euros were granted to the project by the European Union.

To date, more than 6,000 people have been assisted under this project.

The project is funded by the European Union for humanitarian aid and the Luxembourg Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs. The beneficiaries are migrants from all over the world, including Syrians and Afghans, but also Senegalese, Sudanese, Uzbeks and Uighurs.
