Get involved for people in need

Thursday 26 August 2021

Caritas Luxembourg is currently looking for a wide range of volunteers:

Volunteering in Kopstal

In Kopstal, Caritas Accueil et Solidarité runs the Centre de l'Oseraie, which aims to support people in difficulty by offering them accommodation and an introduction to the labour market. The "Weidendall" project welcomes people who are able to activate their employment. Its "Gardening" activity has been developing well since 2019 and currently employs about 20 people. Two additional activities were launched at the beginning of 2021: maintenance of green spaces and cutting firewood. Having an occupation allows all these people not only to fight boredom, to get out of isolation, to learn about life in a group, but above all to show others and especially themselves that they are capable of doing things and thus to feel valued. At the same time, they acquire new skills and stabilise their psycho-social situation.

We are looking for volunteers who would like to come once a week to

  • Support the activation of the beneficiaries in the cultivation of fruit and vegetables
  • Sew bags for firewood
  • Process garden produce in autumn (develop recipes for vegetables and fruit)

We welcome any suggestions you may have about the garden, the forest and cooking.

Volunteering at the Streetwork "Workshop Recherche Logement

In the context of helping and supporting people in precarious situations, housing is considered a necessary cornerstone for the success of the different life projects of our beneficiaries. One of the ideas is to help them to find housing - with the support of volunteers. A first step towards their own residence would be to rent a so-called Caféskummer (a separate room above a café for eligible people). The idea would be for volunteers to search for available rooms and to advise and assist those who need them to apply. The workshop will be offered to a group of beneficiaries and will be integrated into the Streetwork Service of CaritasLuxembourg during a test period that remains to be defined, while aiming at the sustainability of the project.

The emphasis is on the complementary and autonomous aspect of the volunteer team responsible for the project, in the implementation and maintenance of the project. Of course, the Streetwork Service team will support you in the design and implementation of this Workshop, providing you with the necessary information.

Ideally, the team would be made up of 2 to 4 volunteers, in order to ensure a regular operation (e.g. once or twice a week for 2 to 4 hours), while knowing that there will also be off-peak periods.

You will receive more information during the interviews.
