LFR Requests for World Refugee Day
Thursday 18 June 2020
World Refugee Day, celebrated on 20 June, is an opportunity to highlight the right to asylum as a fundamental right at international, European and national level.
The Collectif Réfugiés Luxembourg - Lëtzebuerger Flüchtlingsrot, of which Caritas Luxembourg is a member, takes this opportunity to take an overview of the situation in Luxembourg and to recall its actions.
The Collective shares its reflections and requests with opinions and exchanges with the different Ministries and Administrations.
The Collective has followed, taken note of and reacted to the exceptional measures adopted by the Government of Luxembourg to deal with the crisis triggered by the Covid-19 epidemic and in particular the measures addressed to applicants for and beneficiaries of international protection. The LFR welcomes the Government's work in this particular context and the efforts made to protect vulnerable persons.
The LFR is also pleased to count on the mobilisation of two new members - Fondation de la Maison Porte Ouverte and Ryse Asbl.
This year, the Collective puts forward two concrete recommendations through a petition:
- The implementation of the government's commitment to increase to six months (minimum) after the granting of the status the legal deadline for applying for family reunification.
- Cancel at least the Dublin transfer decisions for all persons arriving before 15 June 2020.
