Sad news from Caritas Marioupol

Tuesday 12 April 2022

It is with great sadness that Caritas Luxembourg has been informed of the death of two staff members of Caritas Marioupol. The premises of Caritas Marioupol have been devastated by attacks, killing several people, including the two Caritas Marioupol staff members.

I am extremely upset by this sad news. Our thoughts are with the families of the victims," said Marie-Josée Jacobs, President of Caritas Luxembourg.

Since the beginning of the conflict, Caritas Ukraine's staff and many volunteers have been working day and night to distribute basic necessities to the most vulnerable people, especially the elderly, sick and children, at great risk to their lives. For security reasons, Caritas Ukraine had already evacuated some of its staff from the east of the country. However, food and medicine distributions continue to be carried out in the cities of the East Ukraine, where people have nothing left and depend on humanitarian aid to survive. Marc Crochet, Director General of Caritas Luxembourg, said:

The distribution of humanitarian aid to the civilian population must be guaranteed. We cannot abandon all these people.

Caritas Luxembourg calls for more security for civilians and humanitarian workers.
