Sport and Solidarity: Help support families in difficulty in Luxembourg thanks to the "CAritas Buttek" social grocery shops.
The 2024 edition of the Postlaf, organised by the Amicale POST Luxembourg with the City of Luxembourg and POST Luxembourg, will take place on 10 March 2024. This is not just a sporting challenge, but also a solidarity action to raise funds to support Caritas Luxembourg.
The donations collected will be used to support families attending the "Caritas Buttek" social grocery shops.
There are 4 of these shops, located in Esch-sur-Alzette, Redange, Diekirch and Luxembourg City. The aim of the social grocery shops is to provide people affected by poverty with foodstuffs and products for everyday use at prices significantly lower than those charged by supermarkets. This increases the purchasing power of people in precarious situations, while giving them access to fresh, high-quality products.
The range of products on offer is similar to that of a conventional grocery shop: fresh fruit and vegetables, starchy foods, meat and fish, sugar, oil, canned goods of all kinds, as well as hygiene and cleaning products. Access is restricted to people with an access card issued by an approved social service. In recent years, the number of people using social groceries has risen steadily. In 2022, 5,360 people - including 1,478 children - had access to one of our "Caritas Buttek" social groceries, which represents an increase of more than 20% compared with 2019.
