Themenbox "Multilingualism"
Multilingualism is a reality of Luxembourg society. In 2017, the Ministry of National Education, Children and Youth called on day nurseries to promote the mother tongue of children aged 1 to 4 years and to systematically integrate Luxembourgish and French into daily activities.
In order to prepare more effectively for the implementation of the multilingual education concept developed by Caritas Luxembourg, it was necessary to find an easy and yet interesting way of introducing it in the centres. This inspired the "Themenbox" idea, called "Parle-moi/Schwätz mat mir" (Talk to me). This offers a wide array of accessories and games to encourage children to learn different languages: puppets called "Charel and Julie" who come from Luxembourg and France, a family of finger puppets for role-playing games, a kamishibai set, a wide range of different books to encourage children to create their own stories, and a projector that can be used to project large-dimension images on the wall.
Since November 2017, this "Themenbox" has been available for the teams to use and has travelled from centre to centre. Since January 2018, it has been part of the educational and play equipment offered by the "Spillmobil" and has been borrowed many times by private nurseries, as well as by the Lycée Technique pour professions éducatives et sociales (Technical High School for Educational and Social Professions).
