Neien Ufank

Today, with all the seemingly interminable conflicts, the prospect of returning to their country of origin is becoming increasingly remote for many refugees, and their integration into our society is becoming a priority.

In order to promote positive and successful integration, Caritas Luxembourg has launched the "Neien Ufank" project, with the financial support of the Oeuvre Nationale de Secours Grande-Duchesse Charlotte. With this project, Caritas Luxembourg aims to act at several different levels:

Access to housing for refugees

A home is an important factor in refugees’ integration because it determines where they will be able to build their social life. Yet the housing market is difficult. As part of the "Neien Ufank" project, Caritas Luxembourg looks for property owners who are willing to make a vacant home available for a social rent, in order to allow a refugee family to leave the centre and start their new life.

Employment integration of refugees

Once an international protection seeker has obtained refugee status, the first thing they want to do is to find a job. As part of the "Neien Ufank" project, Caritas Luxembourg offers them the opportunity to assess their professional skills and helps them to increase their potential, for example, by offering them language classes, and thereby increase their employability. As part of this project, Caritas Luxembourg also looks for volonteers who can provide refugees with their expertise to help them to find a job.

Social assistance for refugees

Participation in community life is a crucial factor for successful integration. Caritas Luxembourg assists refugees with their integration into the local community, for example, by introducing them to their neighbours, helping them with their dealings with the municipal authorities, making connections with the local associations, etc.
