Non-formal education for refugee children
Drawing on its experience in the field of non-formal education (just as a reminder, Caritas Luxembourg runs around twenty day nurseries, day care centres, and youth centres), Caritas Luxembourg has introduced extracurricular activities in two of its refugee centres, in Ettelbruck and Diekirch.
These activities are aimed at children aged from 3 to 12 years and young people aged from 13 to 21 years.
During the school term, these activities are organised every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon. An after-school snack is also offered on every school day. Most importantly, as well as recreational activities, Caritas Luxembourg also offers help with homework and in-class assistance. This involves supporting the teaching staff, the family and the child in the latter's school education.
During the school holidays, we primarily organise educational activities, such as trips to the swimming pool, museum visits, cooking activities, do-it-yourself activities, games afternoons, playground trips, trips to the skating rink, sporting activities (kayak, mountain biking, climbing, etc.).
Caritas Luxembourg aims to ensure that the children who live in the refugee centres can also be supported in their studies and get a little distance from their difficult daily lives in the centre.
