Certain major life events, such as births, first communion, anniversaries, birthdays, etc., are not just joyful times, but are also times of sharing.
For all these occasions, Caritas Luxembourg offers you the opportunity to show your solidarity with the most deprived people by replacing gifts with donations to a cause that is especially close to your heart.
In the same way, you can honour the memory of a loved one by asking for these donations to be made in their name after their death.
Lydie chose to support the Caritas social grocery shops when her dear mother died.
"When my mum died, we wanted to take advantage of the occasion, even if we were sad, to do something good, to do a good deed, something positive despite the grief. That's what motivated my family and I to suggest that people who wanted to make a gesture should make a donation to Caritas Luxembourg for people who use the social grocery shops, rather than giving flowers. I'm sure that's what she would have wanted too," she says.
Elisabeth recently celebrated her 70th birthday. Instead of a gift, she asked her guests to make a donation to help undernourished children in South Sudan.
"I learned that Caritas Luxembourg's nutritional aid in Southern Sudan is part of a whole programme of education and support for young women living in very difficult conditions. I admire the work that the local Caritas teams do on a daily basis. I'm happy to be able to support undernourished children and their mothers through this small gesture of sharing", she explains. Thanks to the money raised, 50 children will receive nutritious food supplements throughout the year!
