Lët'z Refashion by caritas.lu and "Rethink Your Clothes" launch the Luxembourg Upcycling Challenge

The Luxembourg Upcycling Challenge is a competition aimed at promoting upcycling in Luxembourg by highlighting new talent. The winner will be selected by a jury and the best creations will be presented at a fashion show at the Cloche d'Or shopping centre on 15 June.

What is upcycling?

Upcycling involves using materials that already exist and transforming them to extend their lifespan and reduce the carbon footprint.

Only 0.1% of clothing in Luxembourg is upcycled. The vast majority of the population is not yet familiar with the concept. Some accessories are already made in Luxembourg using upcycling, but few people make clothes.

Who can enter the competition?

The competition is open to everyone aged 16 and over.

What do I have to provide?

You need to make a box jacket in sizes M to XL. A box jacket is a straight-cut jacket. It must have a zip or buttons, long sleeves and pockets and must be made using existing fabrics or garments.
Is there anything to win?

The winner will receive prizes such as a personal workshop with content creator Natascha Bintz on the theme of brand building, as well as a professional photo shoot with Eilijah Photography. In addition, the best jacket will be sold at the Lët'z Refashion centre for the benefit of the winner.

Since 2021, the Lët'z Refashion by caritas.lu centre has been selling upcycled and second-hand clothing and accessories. Here, people can discover alternative consumption methods to fast fashion or buying new clothes. By supporting small businesses, the value of craftsmanship is highlighted. The project gives designers the chance to sell their products in a place dedicated to the circular economy.

Lët'z Refashion is a project of Caritas Luxembourg as part of the Rethink Your Clothes campaign, which was launched in 2018. The campaign is implemented by Caritas Luxembourg and the NGO Fairtrade Lëtzebuerg, on behalf of the Luxembourg Cooperation.

Thanks to our partners Letz Meet Cloche d'Or, infogreen and Made Production for their support.
