South Sudan: Food kit

South Sudan is a country with a fragile and precarious equilibrium. In addition to inter-community conflicts, insecurity and climatic hazards that are forcing people to abandon their land to seek safety, the country is facing an unprecedented rise in food insecurity and malnutrition.

The scale of humanitarian needs is unprecedented, with 2.3 million people displaced from their homes. The level of food insecurity is among the highest in the world, with 7.8 million people (two-thirds of the population) facing acute food insecurity and extreme malnutrition out of a total population of 11 million.

FOOD Kits TO FIGHT FOOD INSECURITY

Caritas Luxembourg is helping the most vulnerable households affected by hunger in South Sudan and is setting up programmes to provide emergency food aid to these populations.

Caritas Luxembourg teams are distributing emergency food parcels to displaced families who have been severely affected by the current crisis and no longer have any means of subsistence. Each household receives 35kg of maize, 10kg of beans, 2 litres of oil and 2kg of salt.

This gift can meet the food needs of a family of 6 for around a month.
