Samaneh

Monday 27 December 2021

Samaneh is 27 years old and from Afghanistan. When her husband died, her brother-in-law wanted to marry her, in the local tradition, the woman stays in the family but she refused and by her refusal she was physically abused and raped.

Her children were kept by force after constant threats of marriage, which she refused. She was able to save her children after accepting the marriage and was able to flee Afghanistan with the help of her father. Finally welcomed with her two children in a family in Turkey, she applied for an identity card from the Turkish authorities but this was refused. Without an identity card she cannot benefit from any assistance or send her young children to school.

The project's lawyer supported Samaneh to register with the PDMM (migration authorities), which will enable her to apply for medical and material assistance, obtain financial support or temporary accommodation and meet her family's most urgent basic needs. Samaneh was referred to other departments of our partner, which specialises in gender issues, sexual violence and education.
