"Working Poor": Caritas Luxembourg adopts a position

Tuesday 26 April 2022

A few days before Labour Day on 1 May, Caritas Luxembourg publishes a position paper on the "Working Poor" in which it points out that work is no longer a guarantee to escape poverty.

For Caritas Luxembourg, it is important to act now and implement policies that guarantee working people an income that allows them to live in dignity. In-work poverty must be seen as a major challenge by Luxembourg policy makers.

Among the most urgent measures to be taken, there are:

  • a tax reform with a real redistribution for more social justice;
  • regular adjustment of family allowances and other allowances to the evolution of prices;
  • a reform of vocational training and the enlargement of the training offer;
  • a continuous effort to improve the reconciliation of work, family and private life;
  • the determination of the minimum wage level on the basis of the reference budget.

YOU CAN FIND ALL THE DEMANDS AND PROPOSALS IN THE POSITION PAPER WHICH CAN BE DOWNLOADED BELOW. (In French)
