"Buttek" social grocery stores stay open and expand their support

Food aid for people affected by the financial consequences of the Coronavirus sanitary crisis

The Luxembourg Red Cross and Caritas Luxembourg announce that they are extending access to their social grocery stores, the "Croix-Rouge Buttek" and the "Caritas Buttek", to people and families in precarious situations or experiencing temporary financial difficulties linked to the Coronavirus sanitary crisis. In these difficult times, it is important for both partners to expand their joint assistance.

Who is qualified for this food aid?

Individuals and families who are not yet registered with the social office and who do not yet benefit from food aid, as long as they are living in Luxembourg and are suffering financial consequences linked to the health crisis.

How to benefit from this food aid?

In order to benefit from this aid, people can apply to :

  • the Corona-Helpline of Caritas Luxembourg: helpline@caritas.lu;   
  • the Helpline of the Luxembourg Red Cross: tel: 2755 (Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.) or via info@croix-rouge.lu;   
  • the social office of the place of residence.

What are the " Croix-Rouge Buttek " and the "Caritas Buttek "?

"Caritas Buttek" and "Croix-Rouge Buttek" social grocery stores offer people affected by poverty food and hygiene products at prices up to 70% cheaper than on the market.  People in precarious situations thus see their purchasing power increased, while having access to fresh, quality products. Twelve grocery stores exist throughout the country: Clervaux, Diekirch, Differdange, Echternach, Esch/Alzette, Grevenma-cher, Luxembourg-City, Remich, Mersch, Redange/Attert, Steinfort and Wiltz.  Initiated by the Luxembourg Red Cross and Caritas Luxembourg, the "Buttek" are supplied by the association Spëndchen asbl and its numerous suppliers, networks and partners. The initiative is supported by the Ministry of Family, Integration and the Greater Region.

Through the Caritas Corona-Helpline, people who find it difficult to buy food, pay their rent, bills and debts and who feel alone with their problems will be able to find support.
