To mark Europe Day on 9 May, Caritas Luxembourg would like to thank the European Union for the support it has given to its activities in Turkey. The support of the European Union is essential.
The European Union is supporting two Caritas Luxembourg activities in Turkey. The first activity is a response to the chronic migration crisis in Turkey. It aims to meet the protection needs of vulnerable migrants, including unregistered and undocumented migrants, and to facilitate their access to available services. The offer of assistance includes the provision of legal information, legal advice, support for the regularisation and registration in Turkey of irregular migrants, risk assessment of individual cases and the provision of humanitarian assistance and protection to vulnerable migrants intercepted at borders. During the first phase, from September 2021 to May 2023, 71,177 people were assisted. In the second phase, which lasts until December 2024, it is planned to help the same number again. More than 43,000 people have already been helped. Aid will continue until the end of 2024.
A second activity carried out in Turkey with the support of the European Union is emergency aid for the victims of the earthquake that hit Turkey in February 2023. With the support of the European Union, Caritas Luxembourg and its local partner are helping vulnerable earthquake survivors in the provinces of Adana and Hatay to regain their footing and become more resilient. In 2023, 84,244 people were helped. Aid will continue until the end of June 2024.
THESE TWO ACTIVITIES ARE BEING CARRIED OUT WITH THE SUPPORT OF THE EUROPEAN UNION FOR HUMANITARIAN AID AND THE LUXEMBOURG
MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS. THANK YOU!
