Independent partner: Noël de la rue

History

Noël de la rue a.s.b.l. is an association founded in 1981 by Mr. Léon Kraus and Sister Josette. Its main aim is to organize a Christmas party every December 25 for people living on the fringes of society. These include the homeless, the destitute and the isolated.

After observing that at Christmas, a day full of happiness for everyone, emergency departments had just enough time to attend to patients' physical injuries, and that their psychological state hardly mattered, 2 volunteers, Sister Josette and Léon Kraus came up with the following idea:

If we could get all these needy people together at Christmas, they wouldn't have to live in loneliness on Christmas Day. And so, in 1981, the 1st edition of Noël de la rue was launched, named after Edith Piaf's song "Le noël de la rue".

It's already been 42 years!  And the association has grown year on year, bringing together around a hundred volunteers every Christmas. Noël de la rue has become a recognized association. Many young people have become volunteer members of the board of directors and the organizing committee.

OUR PAST ACTIVITIES

For the 41st edition in 2022, we were able to serve around 250 people in Hollerich and 120 people in Esch-sur-Alzette, offering them a convivial and unforgettable day, serving them a festive meal and offering them a practical gift and a lot of human warmth.

On January 6th 2023 "Fête des Rois" and February 2nd 2023 "Fête de la Chandeleur", our volunteers brought joy to a hundred homeless people in front of the Central Station in Luxembourg by serving them a hot soup, a sandwich and a cake. There was great joy, happiness and gratitude among those in need.

On August 20, 2023, the association organized a barbecue in a Luxembourg city park, where volunteers went out to meet those living in precarious conditions. Our guests enjoyed a delicious barbecue, salads and homemade waffles.
