Shelters for victims of human trafficking

Caritas Luxembourg runs two shelters for victims of human trafficking: La Villa and L'Etape.

Victims are taken in in an open environment, on an urgent and anonymous basis and for a period that varies according to the specific needs and status of the person being cared for. The two facilities mainly take in male victims of human trafficking, but not only. If space permits, they can also take in female victims of human trafficking or male victims of domestic violence.

The centres were set up in collaboration with the Ministry of Equality between Women and Men. Victims are provided with decent accommodation in private, single or double rooms. La Villa and l'Etape offer them a place of protection in complete anonymity. Residents are supported, advised and assisted by a social worker from Caritas Luxembourg, by the Service d'Assistance aux Victimes de la Traite des Êtres Humains (SAVTEH) of Femmes en Détresse and by COTEH of the Fondation Maison de la Porte Ouverte (the two services are known together as InfoTraite) in their administrative procedures, their psycho-social problems, their efforts to live as independent as possible and share values conducive to "living together".  Individual consultations and group meetings with all the residents are organised on a regular basis.
